Ephraim Mirvis is the chief rabbi of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth. Born and raised in South Africa, he studied in Yeshivot in Israel and has previously served as chief rabbi of Ireland and rabbi of the Marble Arch and Finchley Synagogues in London. As chief rabbi, he is a primary representative of the Jewish community to government, other faiths, and civil society. Now in his ninth year in office, he is well known as a principled spiritual leader, who has strengthened Jewish community life and broken new ground in the areas of education, interfaith, and social responsibility.
