Summary

During the 30s and 40s, Hollywood had numerous talented composers working for major studios. Patrick Bade highlights four Jewish composers (Max Steiner, Erich Wolfgang Korngold, Franz Waxman, Bernard Hermann) who were particularly important during this period.

Patrick Bade is a historian, writer, and broadcaster. He studied at UCL and the Courtauld Institute of Art. He was a senior lecturer at Christie’s Education for many years and has worked for the Art Fund, Royal Opera House, National Gallery, and V&A. He has published on 19th- and early 20th-century paintings and historical vocal recordings. His latest book is Music Wars: 1937–1945.

Not that I know of from back then. There may be some today or there may be some in the future, but I don’t know of them.

Well, I suppose it was, but, the technology in sound recording advanced hugely during the 1930s. You can hear that just by watching the movies.
