Summary

Vasily Grossman (1905–1964) was a Ukrainian writer known for various literary genres, including novels, short stories, essays, and war reporting. His extraordinary life included witnessing significant battles during World War II and the liberation of Nazi death camps in Poland. Despite his remarkable experiences, he did not live to witness the publication of his most significant work in the Soviet Union or abroad.

David Herman is a freelance writer based in London. Over the past 20 years he has written almost a thousand articles, essays, and reviews on Jewish history and literature for publications including the Jewish Chronicle, the Jewish Quarterly, Jewish Renaissance, the Guardian, the New Statesman, and Prospect. He has taught courses on Jewish culture for the London Jewish Cultural Centre and JW3. He is a regular contributor to Jewish Book Week, the Association of Jewish Refugees, and the Insiders/Outsiders Festival on the contribution of Jewish refugees to British culture.

It is definitely Robert Chandler and his wife Elizabeth. They co-translate, co-write the translations.

Although his work is still available under Putin, it is not acknowledged as the kind of masterpieces they are in the same way as it is acknowledged in the West and by the West, in the English speaking world.
