Churchill, the Jews and Palestine

Monday 19.07.2021

Summary

Examining Winston Churchill’s role as the first minister for the newly appointed Mandates in Palestine and Iraq during the aftermath of World War I. The focus is on the challenges Churchill faced in addressing the ambiguity of the Balfour Declaration, particularly the clause about not prejudicing the rights of the existing people in Palestine or Jews outside Palestine. The discussion also touches on the Anglo-Jewish establishment’s reservations and the diverse perspectives within the global Jewish community regarding nationalism and identity.
