Summary
Amongst the great masters of the German Renaissance, we find works by Dürer, Altdorfer, Hans Holbein the Younger, who left us vivid documents of the reign of Henry VIII and the English Reformation, and Lucas Cranach the Elder. Later periods of German and Austrian art are more thinly represented but we have masterpieces by Franz Anton Maulbertsch, Max Liebermann, Max Pechstein, and Gustav Klimt.
The National Gallery possesses one of the finest collections of Velazquez, as well as works by Zurbarán, Ribera, Murillo, Goya, and Sorolla.
