Verdi: Middle Period
How to watch
This lecture starts on 18 May at 5:00pm (UK).
Summary
As Verdi’s musical idiom developed with more complex and sophisticated musical means, his rate of composition slowed as he completed (only) six masterpieces over a period of 17 years. In these years his chief competition and influence was the cosmopolitan Jewish composer Giacomo Meyerbeer (1791-1864).
