Ben Hecht: Journalist and Screenwriter

Thursday 8.02.2024

Summary

Jean-Luc Godard said that Ben Hecht was a genius and that “he invented 80 percent of what is used in Hollywood movies today.” Hecht was a brilliant hard-hitting journalist and arguably the greatest American screenwriter. This session, illustrated with his films, will go back in time to the golden age of the silver screen and will examine how Hecht’s controversial stance on Zionism led to his works being banned in Britain.
