Wednesday 15.11.2023

Summary

Patrick Bade delves into the early development of American art from the late 19th century through the start of the 20th century. He examines the influence of Impressionism on emerging artists and how it paved the way for the creation of the gritty Ashcan School movement, culminating in the famous Armory Show of 1913. Throughout the lecture, Bade contextualizes works from prominent artists such as Mary Cassatt, John Singer Sargent, Childe Hassam, George Bellows, and Marsden Hartley.

Well, there are quite a few. One of the largest I know, of course, is the Orsay. They have a wonderful collection of her work in Paris. But I imagine in America, there must be equally large or larger collections. The Metropolitan Museum must have lots of her work. She’s very prolific. So, I would think that most major American museums would have work by Mary Cassatt.
