Trudy Gold
Nancy and Waldorf Astor and the Cliveden Set, Part 1
Summary
Nancy Astor was the first woman to take her seat in British Parliament. Revered by some as a pioneer of Women’s Rights, her story was also dark and complicated. She and her husband held lavish weekend parties at their country estate, Cliveden. There, people of power and influence gathered, including Lord Halifax and Neville Henderson, Britain’s Ambassador to Nazi Germany. This was a close knit group whose aim was to protect the British Empire. What price were they prepared to pay? What were their views on Hitler and the Jewish people?
