Patrick Bade
Krenek, Korngold and Weill: An Operatic Battle 1927-1928
Summary
Patric Bade discusses the cultural musical battle that took place in Germany and Austria between 1927 and 1928 between Erich Korngold, Ernst Krenek, and Kurt Weill. It was a pivotal moment, a moment of change from a type of modernism that was still tinged with the luscious, late romanticism of Mahler and Strauss, and a move toward a much tougher, grittier, more aesthetic type of modernism.
